BIO

Leandro Alvarez is a Brazilian creative living and working in Spain & Portugal. He started his career in Brazil, before moving to the influential Y&R Portugal as a copywriter, and has helped to shape the Portuguese creative landscape for 2 decades. After a successful spell at Y&R, first as a Copywriter, and then as a Creative Supervisor, Leandro joined Ammirati Puris Lintas, and helped to transform an extremely conventional agency into one of the hottest shops in the market. This new vitality allowed Lintas to become the country’s 4th largest agency. At the same time it became one of the top creative agencies in Portugal, having won its first Lion in Cannes under Leandro’s leadership. This caught Leo Burnett’s attention and he was invited to join its ranks in 1999 with a similar task. Almost immediately Leo Burnett Portugal abandoned its traditional low profile, with work for FIAT, Kellogg’s and Galp Energia (state owned petrol and gas company), and in a year LB Portugal became the #6 ranked creative office across the entire network. Leandro then accepted the challenge to lead TBWA\LISBOA into the 21st century, joining the “Pirates” in 2001 first as Vice President, and then as the agency’s President and Chief Creative Officer. At TBWA he has worked with some of the most important brands in the market, winning accolades such as “Campaign of the Decade” and “Idea of the Year” along the way. Throughout the years his work for IKEA, McDonald’s, Volvo, Sociedade Ponto Verde and TMN - to name a few - have been recognized at major national and international creative festivals, such as The NY Festival, Cannes, Eurobest, Epica, Clio, Ad Age, Prémios à Eficácia and CCP Festival. In 2014 he became a Creative Director at Large for TBWA Global, developing work for McDonald's across the world, in the 25 markets where TBWA handles the brand. Since 2017 he's also acting as the Executive Creative Director for McDonald's in Spain. Leandro is married and has 2 absolutely wonderful kids.
